“Have you noticed how many there are?” My wife asked me this the other day. “Babies, I mean.”
I looked around as we walked up to the library. No fewer than five baby-laden strollers and two baby-laden moms were in the immediate vicinity. “There’re a lot of babies. You still want one?”
“I don’t know. Seems like everybody nowadays has one. Maybe we should get an owl instead.”
“There’s something unique.”
“Why not? Probably a lot cheaper in the long run.”
“Lot quieter, too. When an owl is up all night, it’s hunting. When a baby is up all night, it’s crying. How loud can all that hooing be?”
“Yeah. Let’s get an owl.”
